Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream Review

Maybelline's launch of it's BB cream passed me by at the time, I just assumed it wouldn't be for me, not really sure why, until recently I sent away for a free sample pack available through Maybelline's facebook page. I'm not sure how long they took to arrive, but it was quite a long time, as when they arrived I had actually forgotten I had even applied for a sample!
I received 3 sample sachets in light, so I gave a sachet to Rachel to try out too.

Maybelline say... Feel BB Fresh! Our 1-step wonder for a dream skin day, every day. 8-in-1 Skin Perfector. Why you'll love it, imperfections look blurred, a natural looking glow, fresh feel, compliments skin tone, skin looks smooth, hydrates, protects with SPF 30, and oil free, non greasy.

I found the consistency to be thicker than I expected and was more like a foundation, quite similar to the original Garnier BB cream, however it did feel lightweight on my skin. You only need to use a small amount of BB cream for your whole face, I found the coverage to be light to medium as it can be built up for extra coverage, I did need to use concealer for blemishes. The BB cream did gave a great natural fresh finish, without looking too much, it lasted on my oily skin for about 4-5 hours before becoming quite shiny and started to disappear. Price £7.99.

Pro's
  • I found that this was quite a good colour match for my skin, not perfect but one of the best light shades of BB Cream on the high street.
  • Maybelline have 4 shades in their range, which isn't huge but it is pretty good for BB creams.
  • SPF 30 is quite impressive.
  • Coverage was better than I expected, and I did find it gave me a great even finish.

Con's
  • My skin did become quite shiny after a few hours, so it might not be the best match for my oily skin.
  • I found that it didn't have the longevity that I wanted, by the time I finished work the coverage had disappeared.
Would I purchase?
Elaine - I did like this BB cream, but it didn't come close to my Garnier BB cream for oily skin, I would consider buying this if some how I fell out of love with Garnier.
Rachel - I'm used to wearing tinted moisturiser so I found this BB cream to be quite heavy, I also didn't find it to be particularly moisturising, overall it's ok but it doesn't stand out enough for me to buy it.

Have you tried Maybelline's BB cream? Which BB cream would you recommend?

Updated Review - Garnier BB Cream for combination/oily skin

I've had the new Garnier BB Cream for Oily/combination skin for a month now, so thought I would do an updated review so I could let you know if my original thoughts had changed, you can see my first post here.

I have been using this BB Cream everyday since I bought it and I can honestly say that I still love it, I haven't had to reach for my face powder once when I wear it, which is a miracle for me! I'm very impressed.

In my original review I didn't think that the BB cream gave much of a radiant glow compared to the original but I have definitely changed my mind about this, it really does give your skin a nice healthy glow that doesn't look faked, it wasn't until I used a different BB cream that I realised just how good the Garnier one was, when I use the Garnier cream my skin always looks even and matte with a nice glow. Although I can't say that it minimised the appearance of my pores, but I have quite large pores and I think that I would need polyfiller for my pores to appear smaller!!

Garnier actually claim that after using the BB cream for 4 weeks skin will look less oily, pore appearance is minimised, imperfections are visibly reduced and skin radiance is improved, so did I find this to be the case for me... well... no, but if I'm honest I wasn't expecting it to, it's a pretty big claim for a £7 BB Cream.

I can honestly that I still really like this product, and would recommend it to anyone with oily skin.

Have you tried out the oily/combination Garnier BB cream yet?

New Garnier BB cream for Combination/Oily skin

I was really surprised to see this in Superdrug the other day as I had heard nothing about the probably most well known western BB cream releasing an oil free version. I bought the original Garnier BB cream last year when it was released with all the hype and loved it, I really liked how it gave my skin a lovely glow but it always left my skin very oily after a few hours, I couldn't really justify buying it again when it ran out but I was always tempted.
When I saw this I Superdrug I had to buy it, the introductory price is £7.49 I'm not sure what the normal price will be but as the original Garnier is often on offer for around £7.99 I doubt it will be that much more expensive.

The BB cream claims to be a miracle skin perfector, which gives immediately perfected skin. it also quotes results of immediately giving a radiant matte finish for 86% of women, pores appear less visible for 84% of women, and imperfections appear minimised for 76% of women. It also claims that after 4 weeks skin will look less oily, pore appearance is minimised, imperfections are visibly reduced and skin radiance is improved.

So did it actually do what it said on the box?... Yes!
(although I haven't had it long enough for the 4 week claims)

The BB cream has a different tube compared to the original which I prefer as I think it makes it look like a higher quality product, and the BB cream itself has a much more liquid consistency than the original, but you will still only need a small amount unless you are wanting to build up coverage. It also contains SPF 20 which is brilliant as I only wear moisturiser or foundation with at least SPF 15.

Sorry not too sure why the second picture looks so orange, it's definitely not the BB cream!
It leaves your skin looking even and shine free, I was really pleased with how matte my nose and chin stayed throughout the day, it's not often I have a foundation/BB cream that can manage that, not even my No7 BB cream for oily skin. If I'm honest it doesn't offer as much of an illuminating glow but the even healthy look it gives your skin makes up for it.
I think Garnier may have addressed the issue of their original light BB cream not being that light, as this one is more of a match to my skin colour and blends in well.

Overall I'm really pleased with this product

Will you be trying out the new Garnier BB cream?

Get a dewy look without buying another foundation

If you have oily skin like I do, you will be used to always gravitating towards matte foundations and pressed powder, I always wanted to get a more glowing or radiant look but whenever I buy a foundation that promises this I always get an even more oily T zone and it's just not worth the 'sweaty' look.

So instead of getting a new foundation I use the foundation that I already have and mix it with a liquid highlighter, I use Benefit's High Beam or Moon Beam, there are loads of cheaper alternatives on the high street, I think mememe has a copy of High Beam. Although you are buying another item this will be dual purpose instead of buying a foundation you might not use much.

I put the normal amount of foundation on the back of my hand and mix it with a smaller amount of highlighter as you don't need much because it goes a long way.

I love doing this on a night out, or if I think I look tired, and people have commented about how good my skin looks. You could also do this with BB creams or moisturisers if you don't like a heavy feel on you skin.

L'Oreal Nude Magique BB Cream Review

I saw this is in Superdrug the other day, and tested it on my hand and had to have it! I got it for £10.99 but Superdrug had all L'Oreal make up on 3 for 2, I tried to see how much it was at Boots but they didn't have it on their website but they do have selected L'Oreal make up on buy one get the second half price.

So L'Oreal say - Discover our new make up sensation that helps to recreate the texture and glow of perfect nude looking skin. Beyond Make up, beyond skin care, new Nude Magique BB cream is the ultimate all in one perfecting cream. A feather light hydrator which transforms on contact with skin, releasing smart pigment capsules to correct tone, cover imperfections and refine skin texture. With up to 24 hour hydration and SPF 12, you can have all the benefits of skin care with the perfecting properties of make up.

The BB cream comes in two tones, I bought Fair, the colour is a little bit darker than my natural skin colour but not by too much, it's a bit lighter than the Garnier light BB cream. When you first put the cream on your hand it comes out white with a hint or bluish specks then when you rub it on your skin it changes colour. I found that the cream seemed to be a bit gritty but I didn't find it off putting.

The cream is very light and does give a bare skin feel which is great if you find other BB creams such as Garnier a bit heavy. I found it did give an even finish on my skin but it only has a very light coverage so it's not the best at covering imperfections such as spots. I also am not convinced about the hydrating qualities as I have a dry forehead and it does feel dry when I have this on, so I will continue to use moistuiser on my forehead especially when the weather is cold. On a plus though I found that this cream didn't make my nose and chin too oily even without pressed powder, which is great because I can get very oily skin.

I would definitely buy this again and would recommend it my friends, it's a great alternative to foundation.

L'Oreal Nude Magique BB Cream & MUA Love Heart Collection

I nipped into Superdrug last night after work and was so pleased to see the MUA love heart collection, I had seen a few bloggers talking about it and really wanted to try some of the products, I got a tinted lipbalm in Sugar Lips and a yellowy nail varnish in U and I.

I was just about to leave then I noticed that L'Oreal had launched their own BB cream called Nude Maqique BB Cream, I had no intention of buying it as I use No7's BB cream, but I tired it on my hand and I loved it instantly. It comes out as a white cream and changes colour when you rub it on your skin, and it feels very very light so it really does give a 'nude' skin feel, I'm trying it out for the next few days so a review will follow.

BB Creams! Garnier vs. No7

BB Creams were the new phenomenon to hit the high street in 2011, they have become so talked about that my friend told me her dad asked her if she had heard of them and how great they were!
What are BB Creams? Garnier tells us that B.B. creams (short for Blemish Balm) are hybrid products which combine the benefits of skincare and make-up in one. Initially developed by a German dermatologist in the 1950s, to soothe skin and provide coverage, B.B. Creams were made famous in South Korea by an actress famed for her beautiful skin.
I originally tried Garnier BB Cream after receiving a free sample, I was really impressed with the product and thought that it gave brilliant coverage for essentially a tinted moisturiser and my skin did look more healthy when I wore it, however I thought even the light was a bit too dark on my skin and a few times I went back to the box to double check I hadn't picked up the medium. I also have an oily T zone and found this cream made it worse so had to wear powder over the top so I didn't look like swamp thing! But I do really like the product the benefits out way the cons.
However Rachel has tried the Garnier Cream once and when going through my make up for things to steal and she wasnt impressed, she found that the it felt dry and powdery on her skin and didnt make it feel healthy or feel any different from normal foundation. She does say perhaps she didnt give it a fair trial time wise but we both it agree it smells lush.
So when we were in Boots the other day we noticed that No7 have brought out their own BB Cream we knew we had to give it a try, what was different about No7 was that their range is tailored for people with dry, very dry and oily skin which was brilliant for us, the No7 version also has SPFF 15, it is priced at £12.95 but if you time it with the boots No7 £5 off vouchers (which are available now) you can get it for a steal at £7.95.
Rachels Review – Normal/Dry:
I love it... it feels really soft when applying it to my skin and when it sinks in, it doesnt feel as heavy as normal foundation but still gives light to medium coverage, my skin feels rehydrated and soft to touch. I do feel at the minute that my skin isnt in the best of condition to move to a lighter coverage so havent been wearing it a lot but it feels good enough that I will try and make the step to wearing it all the time!
Elaine's Review – Normal/Oily:
I like this,  it is that bit lighter when you apply it as it's more fluid, and a little bit goes a long way and the coverage it just as good as Garnier, I also feel that the colour (fair) matches my skin tone a lot better, but I dont think it makes your skin as luminous. I would definitely buy this again. It is more expensive than Garnier but there are a tiny few more pros especially when you get £5 off.

Have you tried them yet? What did you think?
